I hope you guys had the chance to read ALL of my blogs thus far on We Care Spa!
So you all probably know I had a nice and relaxing time while starving my booty away in the desert! My treatments felt great and the time I spent working on my own meditation and mental relaxation was a tremendous help to my crazy-busy-on-the-go mind!
But the question remains, WAS IT WORTH IT?
WAS SEVEN DAYS OF NO FOOD, COLONICS, MASSAGES AND FACIALS, MEDITATION AND YOGA, HEADACHES AND DETOX DRINKS REALLY WORTH IT?
Oh yeah… I also paid lots of $$$$ for this week of no food and very basic, “cute” accomodations.
Hmmm…
I’m still not entirely convinced.
Let’s start with my seven days of relaxation and no work…
Yes, of course I enjoyed the relaxation. But seven days of relaxation is a LONG time for someone like me who’s driving here, there and everywhere, teaching 8-10 classes a day.
Should we as human beings enjoy our relaxation sessions and alone time? All of those self-help books tell us YES we should. But somehow my mind kept telling me NO I should be busy and productive.
GUILTY MUCH???
Were my massages, facials and other treatments fabulous?
Sure!
Except I couldn’t help but feel guilty for taking the time and money to treat myself when I could have been working and motivating others to work out, eat healthy and be their best. I actually missed my work… and my clientele… A LOT. Thanks self reflection HAHA.
Hmmm…
Meditation, yoga and astrology…
I loved all of these! The yoga was a bit frustrating at times because I was so weak from not eating that I could not perform at my regular level (btw my instructor Patricia was phenomenal!)
Sounds pathetic the starving part, right? There are people all over the world who eat less than a third of what I eat in a day weekly, and they bust their butts physically and mentally never thinking they’re starving. Spoiled brat perhaps?
Food for thought…!
Did not eating and only drinking one juice, one soup and two detox drinks a day for seven days really help me lose any weight and look different?
I hate to say it, especially after those hard earned seven days of at times bliss and other times torture, but NO.
I took a great ab shot of me one day looking lean, but let’s be honest, I can do that at home. I think the lack of food actually caused my body to go into starvation mode therefore maintaining my weight. Then there’s all that water that goes into your colon ever day during your colonic… that definitely added water weight and bloat to my tummy.
I did however, feel and look less “puffy.” You all know what I mean by that– we all get it from time to time. Hard to explain. But I just felt “CLEANER” and “CLEARER.”
Not to mention my skin was glowing and pimple free!
Was it fun meeting new people and bonding based on the fact that we were all in this starvation mode together?
My companions helped A LOT! Everyone was really great.
Unfortunately, I get kinda cranky (LOL very cranky is more like it) when I don’t eat so when I wasn’t attending classes, treatments or making my detox drinks, I was hiding in my room trying to go to bed early so I could wake up and have another detox drink that would at least fill me up for the first hour of my day! HA– and that’s the total truth!
Do colonics really help cleanse your colon and digestive system?
So I’ve done a lot of research and spoken to a lot of doctors about this. People who take the holistic approach will say yes, colonics indeed do help and not eating while doing them for several days also helps. But the majority of MD professionals I spoke with said the colonics and not eating for seven days could be more of a detriment to my system than anything helpful.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not a fan of over medicating or going to the doctor every time I get a cold. And I LOVE alternative medicines. Heck I usually don’t even get the flu shot. But I have to say, the way my body reacted after my detox, leads me to believe these medical professionals could have a point.
Post Detox Results…
Maybe a seven day detox was too long for someone as active as me? Maybe I did something wrong? I followed the instructions for sure and honestly did not cheat! But to be totally open and honest, I did not feel great afterwards.
NO, WAIT. STOP.
I did feel great initially. I felt like jumping and skipping for joy as I took my to-go detox salad they handed me with my big bill and left the building. Only it was too hot (over 100 degrees) outside to run and I had zero energy.
But driving home that wonderful feeling of post detox health and bliss I was told would hit me, well, it never did..
My girlfriend who loves We Care and swears by it says she feels amazing and incredible after each week there. I kept waiting for that feeling of elation to hit me.
STILL WAITING…
And TMI… I developed a rash under my armpits several days later. Could be coincidence or perhaps it could have been my body’s way of flushing out more toxins? Either way, I had to get prescription ointment that months later I continued needing! Oh yeah- and my tummy took over a month to come back to normal. All that bloat I went into the detox to get rid of, well it all came back a week later when I started eating again. And I mean eating SUPER HEALTHY mind you!
In conclusion…
Maybe I wasn’t as healthy as I thought and the detox just continued “flushing out my toxins” for months.
Or maybe my body just didn’t respond as well as my friend’s and other die hard We Care attendees?
Or maybe some doctors are correct, a detox like this is just plain old NOT GOOD FOR YOU. Most everyone I met at We Care had already been. And those who hadn’t, were considering coming back. So they must believe in the benefits, actually seeing the changes in their bodies.
Right?
I could be totally crazy.
OR NOT.
I think I know my body pretty well. Very well. EXTREMELY WELL. Quite frankly, a week long liquid only diet with one colonic each day just doesn’t feel right for me.
But I am super happy and enthused that I tried it. I totally took one for the team guys… now you have the inside scoop and can decide to try it or nix it!
I absolutely believe in RESETSÂ and on a positive note I think We Care offered me just THAT. I stayed super healthy when I came home, inspired by all of my We Care classes and a week of really clean liquid eating LOL.
Just remember… my conclusions lead me to believe this is for wellness “reset” and a cleansing of your system but NOT FOR WEIGHT LOSS. We all react differently so some of you may reap the benefits and fall in love with the program. Others may feel more like I do.
Either way, as a health and wellness professional I am so happy I tried it out for myself. We Care is one of the top facilities in the world for detox programs. I gained a lot of knowledge about different recipes and foods that can greatly benefit our systems.
Oh- and most importantly- they taught me how to use a vitamix and I bought one. I love it. We use it every day. So indeed, several great things did come out of my stay here.
Yay!
Until the next new, hot miraculous detox comes along… I’ll be passing on all others! 🙂
