Well hello everyone!
Happy “Tongue Out” Tuesday to all my dog lovers and “Taco Tuesday” to all my Mexican food lovers. Or if you love both like I do, happy “Take Your Dog To Taco Tuesday” day, lol.
Is it just me or is anyone else in the mood to simplify their life? And by simplify I mean, throw shit away! Sorry for the less than glamorous wording, but I have a bit of attitude about the subject if you can tell, haha.
I have been taking piles of towels, sheets and dog toys to my fave animal rescues. I have tons of bags loaded with goodies I’ve given to friends and Good Will. I mean the list is endless. I just can’t seem to stop.
Maybe I’m nesting?
NOT in the have a baby way, trust me! Maybe it’s because now that we are married, I feel like starting fresh and reorganizing things? Or maybe it’s because work is insanely busy and I feel the need to control my home turf?
Anyone else? I hope I’m not the only one going crazy insane to clean house!!!
So as a result I’ve been compiling a list of reasons why I don’t need all of this STUFF! And let me tell you, it’s really making me feel good giving things away and cleaning house.
Every bag I donate, every item I recycle, every purse I give a friend, I just feel soooo good. So clean. And so happy.
CLEAN?
Yes, clean too. I feel like I took a shower. No, more like our entire house took a shower. There’s more room now and I like it. Less clutter makes me feel so happy. It’s almost as if I just came back from a cardio sesh’ at the gym hahaha. My mood is lifted.
In fact, it’s as if a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders.
Who really needs so much stuff anyways?
Not to say we have more than the average person, in fact, I think we honestly have quite a bit less. But becoming a minimalist just feels better and better. It’s becoming more and more natural. And besides, eventually we are going to move into a bigger place (for more room not more stuff), so downsizing our move is foresight on my part :). Hint hint Anton!
Anyways, this whole topic got me thinking. What’s happiness all about? Doesn’t STUFF just get in the way sometimes? I mean, I can remember going to school and having to get up extra early to pick out an outfit. And a cool one at that. Sheesh… looking back, I totally wish I’d had a uniform. I could have slept in more and not wasted so many brain cells on my teenage fashion choices.
And don’t even get me started on how many times I’ve moved… across state, country east and then back again west. The list goes on and on.
Oh and if you downsize your house and want to save things like furniture or childhood memories, you need a storage unit. And don’t forget all these items cost you money to buy in the first place. So now you’re paying rent to keep them meanwhile they age, some get eaten by moths, and others grow way out of style.
(Yes I’ve definitely been here but this is for a comedy not my current blog post LOL).
Do you see my point?
Material things cost MONEY and TIME and LOTS OF IT.
Material things also create more WASTE. If you’re not donating or recycling, you’re throwing stuff away, adding to the Earth’s waste. So now you’re committing two misdemeanors in the minimalist handbook: spending and wasting!
I am basically just so over it. I’m over the drama of stuff LOL. Feeling like I have to wear everything or use everything or organize everything. It’s just way to much to think about. I’d really rather be on vacation with Anton and our fur babies.
I made a list of my top three things I need in my life: my two yorkies and Anton. Next, I love fitness, travel, animals and friends and family. From there I can definitely cut back and work on making much more minimalist choices. Like buying one pair of boots for fall, not 5! Or buying one designer purse every few years, not 3 in the same year. You see where I’m going with all of this? Or having 5 super fantastic friends I can count on in the best and worst of situations versus dozens of friends who are not genuine and would not be there for me when I needed them most?!!
Simplicity, everything in moderation, living a healthy, sane lifestyle and saving money… it’s all a very Mode De Vie Fit concept if you ask me.
I’m also simplifying what I eat, where I shop and the places I work at.
Making healthy choices is easier when I have a small list of meal options to make at home. I can certainly diversify on my “cheat nights” when we go out, but being consistent at home with simple, healthy eating choices is not only easier, it’s way less time consuming.
Clothing shopping online is helping a lot too! Thank God for Amazon and revolve.com. With free shipping and returns, how can you go wrong? Just click, buy, try and return if needed.
Who fights traffic and goes to the mall these days anyways?
And as for work. If you can limit your commute, then do! It’s way better for your body to sit in the car for less time and also way better on your car’s gas mileage and gas costs! You’ll save money and your body. Plus driving takes mental focus… I’d rather save that for my blog and my fitness classes, wouldn’t you?!
All in all, I think I’ve done a good job of convincing myself to simplify my life. Honestly, it just feels amazing and with time I think it can only get better and better.
What do you guys think?
If you think my sharing would help simplify your life, let me know. I have a second blog in mind with tips on how to simplify everything from your closet to your grocery list.
Thanks for listening to me ramble. Love you guys! Now it’s time to take the pups for a walk before their homecooked meal lol.
