DRESS SHORTS! A sexy, feminine, total MUST HAVE if you ask me.
Why? Because they’re so dang fun and different. Dress shorts remind me of the first version of a “skort” when I was younger. My sister loved the “skort” in particular because she was always upside down hanging on the monkey bars and running around the playground. The skort kept her hidden undies safe from public view, LOL.
Although today’s dress shorts may not protect us from being exposed when we play upside down on the monkey bars (as our skorts used to), they do make for a fun way to spice up your going out wardrobe.
LOL.
Always the boutique shopper, I found these guys at Camellia Boutique in Solana Beach. I love the soft, silky feel of the shorts. Paired with my sheer black shirt, it makes for one spicy outfit.
I like to look both sexy and feminine when I go out. Whether it’s to lunch with the girls or dinner with Anton, feeling good about my style and outfit is important to me. Selfishly, I really do not care what others think about my choices. I’m the kind of girl who needs to feel great for me. And if the fashion trends are trending what I like, awesome. If not, that’s okay too… it just makes my shopping that much harder to find what I’m in the mood for ha ha.
Let’s talk about what feeling “great for me is”. Great for me is achieving the look that I am going for at any particular moment. I also work to show off my assets and hide what I am maybe not feeling so great about at that particular moment. I chose my black sheer top because it feels and looks sexy (TO ME) and black tops tend to help slim down my arms (the hardest part of my body to get lean and toned, UGH). The shorts provided a unique, fun, somewhere between fancy and casual look, and the shoes accent my long legs. Blended together into one matching outfit, I felt sexy and flirty, ready for a fun night out with Anton and our friends.
In these photos, we are headed to a semi casual dinner in San Diego. Sure, I could have opted for jeans and flip flops, but for dinner? That choice is SO NOT ME. I would have totally felt disappointed and lazy in my outfit had I not dressed up for the occasion.
Oh yeah, and did I mention I happen to be tan in this moment? Why waste a good tan? I say show off those sexy, tan legs if the weather is decent!
Shorts versus a skirt? For my taste, it TOTALLY DEPENDS on the individual. I like diversity so I have a bit of everything. These shorts are dressy enough so you can totally wear them in lieu of a skirt. (And if I wanted to make an even fancier outfit out of them, I would have worn a button down sheer blouse and semi tucked it in.) Obviously jean shorts would not work well with the look I was trying to acheive here. If I had been going to the beach, a cute tank with jean shorts and high heels could have totally worked. But for dinner with my man and friends, dressing up just feels good to me.
Now a lot of you may be TOTALLY DIFFERENT. And hey, that’s OKAY! This is a blog where I represent my own opinions and share my feelings with you all. Plus, I truly believe in OWNING WHAT YOU WEAR. If you can dress up in holey jeans and a T-shirt with sexy shoes, curly hair and fancy costume jewelry for a semi-fancy night out on the town, all the more power to you. I have friends who prefer totally different styles to mine– all of which look amazing on them and totally fit the occasions they wear them in.
The most important piece of fashion advice I can give anyone? OWN EVERY PIECE OF CLOTHING YOU MAKE INTO YOUR OUTFIT. No matter what the occasion, it matters not what people think, but what you think and how you look and feel! You’ve all heard the saying,”What everyone thinks of me is none of my business?” Well, the same rings true for our fashion choices if you ask me. We are all beautiful and unique in our own ways and should totally showcase WHO WE ARE AS REAL INDIVIDUALS!
