Inauguration day is tomorrow! As you all know I get inspired and happy to do posts on pertinent, existing issues so here I go!…

We are all in for a big change. But perhaps not the kind of change you’re immediately thinking of?

The kind of change I’m referring to is something fun. Something creative. Something we can all totally enjoy over the next 4 years if we just put politics aside.

FASHION.

We are about to have our first ex-model, Slovenian immigrant First Lady of the United States of America!

YES FORGET ABOUT PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD FOR FIVE MINUTES PLEASE.

Forget about ALL politics.

Forget about ALL associations.

LET’S TALK STYLE AND RELEVANCE TO OUR LIVES!

I think we’ve seen and been influenced by some very unique, beautiful fashion in the White House during the past 100 years. Here’s a look back in time to some of these fabulously dressed First Ladies…

Former First Lady Mamie Eisenhower knew how to pose and match her gloves, hat and pearl necklace to even the most “polka dotted” of dresses :).

America’s style icon of perhaps all time, the radiant Jackie O, remains my all time favorite! Her stunningly bold color choices, clutch purses and sophisticated cuts made her a fashion pioneer in the White House and the world. I mean those sun glasses, gloves, dresses, swimsuits and riding pants! Could she have been anymore stylish and drop dead amazing?

Who has seen Nancy Reagan’s gorgeous aqua pleated dress with matching hat and studded earrings. Chic and classy- very Mode De Vie Fit don’t you think?!

Let’s fast forward a few years…

In more recent times, Hillary Clinton made a fashion statement coordinating her own outfit colors with those of her then President-husband. (Anton and I do this all the time LOL and I love it). First Lady Hillary also made a smooth transition from pencil skirt to pantsuit and inspired many working women to follow suit, literally!

Laura Bush proved that being a conservatively dressed librarian is beautiful and sexy in it’s own right. Her skirt suits, collared jackets and long sleeve gowns were downright inspiring in their elegance and subtlety.

Michelle Obama showed us that whether you’re wearing a $40 Target dress or a $2000 American designer, you can look fabulous and appropriate for any occasion! Her kitten heels, A-line silhouette dresses and diverse wardrobe have been a huge hit in the world of fashion.

I really appreciate the fact that Michelle could pull off such a wide price tag in style- it’s very me. I’m all about splurging when you can but totally cutting costs and finding something beautiful and elegant for the occasion on a budget price!

And now, let’s get back to the present!

I am super excited to see the kind of fashion choices Melania Trump makes as First Lady for many reasons.

First of all, she’s an immigrant from Slovenia. Right there she has a background in fashion that is quite different from any of our previous First Ladies. Eastern European fashion is very sexy, very bold and VERY EDGY.

I personally love the edginess I see in women from that part of the world. As a dancer I’ve kept a certain edginess in my wardrobe choices- mainly because I had a heavy influence of Eastern European designers, dancers and friends in my professional career. Go figure, no wonder I’m excited to see what Melania wears next!

Second, Melania was a model for many, many years and has posed in pretty much EVERYTHING. I imagine she’s not afraid to try new things. Plus, with a body like that, who wouldn’t want to experiment and diversify their fashion portfolio!

And finally, I’ve loved everything I’ve seen Melania wear so much that I look forward to more. I find her choices very elegant, edgy and simple. Key word here guys: simple. Ahh how I love that word!

HOLD ON!…

YES I know most of these pieces are super pricey but let’s not allow that to stop us from staring, admiring and learning, shall we?

Check out the white jumpsuit Melania wore on election night. Within hours most of us were all talking about that white jumpsuit. And if you’re a bit like me, we were all totally googling the designer and where we could find a less expensive version the design!

So let’s assume none of us want to pay nearly $4000 for a Ralph Lauren jumpsuit. What happens next?

Well, I for one take a screenshot of the outfit and begin to search some of my fave online stores like shopstyle.com or revolve.com for similar looks. Obviously if Ralph Lauren is doing it, he’s not the only one. And guaranteed there are plenty of copy cat versions out there at way lesser prices.

Another option is to have the same piece of clothing made for you. YES this is totally easy and worth your time! There are so many great, inexpensive tailors out there that can totally whip up an identical look at a fraction of the price.

Every outfit need not be a $1000 plus price tag to be appropriate and beautiful. I’d like to see Melania in a dress under $50 and some flat dress shoes for a complete surprise!

I also hope Melania can diversify her fashionable wardrobe a bit like Michelle Obama did. I think it would be great to show us girls across America that she can dress with all of us from time to time!

I want people to feel inspired not discouraged in thinking that since they cannot afford a big price tag, they won’t find anything stunning to wear. That’s just SO NOT TRUE.

Regardless of price, we can ABSOLUTELY study, learn and emmulate the expensive fashion we see on Melania and future First Ladies or female Presidents!

It will certainly be interesting to see what Melania wears to her husband’s inauguration tomorrow. Will she be in a super expensive gown? Will she choose an American designer? A European one? Will her dress have sleeves or gloves? Sparkle or print?

This year’s inauguration will be very interesting indeed!

Nighty Night Guys.

xx Shanna
