BOTH SOUND “A LOTTA” SCARY IF YOU ASK ME!!!
So as you all know I did my 7 day detox in the desert. It had its pluses and minuses for sure. But when I got back from my program, my fiance’ left the next week for a hike in the Sierra Mountains.
At first it sounded AWFUL… long and exhausting… especially when it included CAMPING each night!
The “c” word actually makes me break into a sweat. And I’m not talking colonics this time guys. I am SO not a camping girl. I’ve tried but quite frankly, I like having a five star bathroom with lights so I can get up in the middle of the night and use it if I need to.
LOL.
I HATE BUGS and sleeping bags aren’t terribly comfortable. I enjoy dinners out, soft pillows and a skinny margarita, RESORT style!
So back to Anton’s week of hiking. He completed his mission of hiking 223 miles in just 7 days.
You do the math. That’s a ton of mileage each day.
CRAZZZY!!
And it gets even more intense. He sleeps under what he likes to call his “FIVE BILLION STAR TENT.” In other words, he sleeps in his sleeping bag, under the stars, sans tent!
Intense, RIGHT?! He packs light but gets to nibble on things like cheeses (the first day), sausages and nuts, coffee, powerbars, chocolates and dried fruits. Compared to colonics and starvation this is starting to sound pretty fantastic, don’t you think?
OH YEAH… and he comes back losing like 20 pounds! SO LEAN! Poor guy- and the only thing I prepared for his arrival was salad, quinoa and a lean protein. His guy friend was like, “she didn’t even make you pasta or something with substance?!” Yep, that’s me… OOPS! I didn’t realize his hike would bring him back looking so lean and buff.
SO THAT GOT ME THINKING…
We spent the SAME amount of time on our trips. But our time spent was VERY DIFFERENTLY. I starved on mine, drank detox drinks and had 6 colonics! Anton was out in nature, saw bears, deer and more wildlife, and ate quality foods and proteins.
END RESULT?! I THINK HE CAME BACK HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER THAN I DID!
Oh yeah… his trip might have cost $250 (gas, food and a rental car to get him back to his parked car). Mine cost THOUSANDS.
He did lose a few toe nails running downhill so much (YUCK- mountain man removes them himself and then I have to play nurse).
So this whole subject got me thinking, would I rather do a long hike or something physical with minimal food versus a week of spa and starvation?
Looking at his lean body and the fact that he was stronger and fitter than before I am starting to like the idea A LOT.
YES to the physical and food!
I mean, what can I come up with for me that includes lots of exercise and super light, healthy, high protein dishes, but without the need for a tent?
Hmmm… this may take some work.
Perhaps We Care is a great place to “reset” your body by doing their 3 day stay only? Then head to the mountains for a few days of hiking and a night or two of camping? Or save up and head to Rancho La Puerta for their week of luxurious wellness, workouts and healthy eating? I definitely want to try them next.
Or perhaps I should just get my shit together and eat cleaner 300 days out of the year, allowing ONLY 65 days of light cheating on the weekends and special holidays LOL.
I guess what I’m trying to say is we really shouldn’t need a detox program if we make healthy eating and physical activity a permanent way of life. I mean, heading to a detox center just to cancel out 355 days of bad eating is not good for you despite what you try to convince your conscience to believe.
So, if you were going to do a detox program, which detox do you think you would want to try? Anton’s or mine? Or do you agree that maybe we should make our wellness such a huge part of our life that we don’t need a yearly detox?
Bottom line, I think there are multiple approaches to living well, detoxifying yourself, and looking good. No certain path is necessarily the right one. We are all SO different. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa.
Detox? Reset? Resolution? Who likes which one the most? What do you tend to enjoy if any? Can you really stick it out with no cheating?
I want to hear all the deets! Remember, I took one for the team guys with all those nasty colonics and zero food for 7 days hahaha.
Happy Detoxing,
xx Shanna
