Starting to plan your very own Cabo vacation yet? I hope so! Now that we are all on the same page about The One&Only Palmilla, adventures and beach vacations, let’s chat about the actual town of Cabo San Lucas and my three most favorite things to do in Cabo’s downtown: shopping, dining and scuba diving!
SHOPPING:
I think bartering on the beach for jewelry is just fabulous!
I enjoy chatting with the locals, practicing my Spanish and asking all sorts of questions about their families, friends and life in Mexico. Plus, I’ve negotiated some pretty sweet deals over the years on sterling silver bracelets, necklaces and earrings. If it’s not Tiffany’s, I’ll take Mexican silver anytime.
I also like to multi task. Lying on a lounge chair at the beach all day while trying to get this white body tan can be a challenge, and very time consuming- I can get bored easily (those of you who know me yes, this is an understatement lol). Shopping and chatting with friendly vendors for 30 minutes to an hour in a bikini is a three for one: I shop, tan and soak up some local culture. Shoot- I even save some money by spending it. Such the perfect combination.
DIVING:
The best place to dive is near Cabo’s famous El Arco.
I recommend going after May when the water warms up. It’s definitely chilly in the months prior. A crowded tourist spot for sure, we were still able to see tons of beautiful fish, several rays, two black tipped reef sharks and one very large, unfriendly moray eel. If you can survive the colder weather (I’m a wuss so I do short dives in the cold),
November through February is the best time to hear and see whales during their migrations. Humpbacks, Greys and the occasional Blue whale can be heard underneath the water. It’s absolute Mozart to one’s ears.
And if you are a beginner, NO PROBLEMO! Enjoy your first dive with an experienced dive master who will escort you in shallower waters so you can get a taste of scuba! Warning: you will get hooked and fast!
DINING:
Once we told our friends about our Cabo trip, EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE, kept telling us to go to The Office on the Beach. Even my Dad and his girlfriend enjoy this fun spot. So we thought, okay, what the heck- let’s try it.
The Office is quite the happening place for tourists. I found jewelry vendors to barter with, we ordered champagne and skinny margaritas and listened to mariachi music all night long. Talk about multitasking! The Office is great for individuals, groups and couples- we saw all ages. The surf and turf is one of their best dishes and the guacamole is insanely delicious and fresh! Their guy with a tequila bottle and whistle is hilarious- for $5 you can drown your date (aka Anton) in a shot of tequila, table side!
The Office gives you a fun, “American tourist” Cabo experience. The Office is a HUGE tourist attraction.
If you prefer a quieter, more romantic setting, Edith’s restaurant is not far and offers fantastic fare and a beautiful atmosphere. You can also stay in at our favorite One&Only Palmilla resort and try a new restaurant each night without ever leaving the resort’s gates. I’m a girl who loves to have options, so even if I do decide to stay at the resort, knowing what’s out there is super helpful!
SO… what’s your take on Cabo? Do you guys have any great places you love and keep coming back to? Any favorites we should try in June if we go back? Any super fun activities we missed?
xx Shanna
