Ohhh Capri!
Talk about an elegant, beautiful place. I’m soooo happy I decided to skip expensive wedding invitations (wayyy more on this later) and instead, put our money towards a fantastic yachting experience to Capri as a warm welcome to guests!
I wanted to do something different, something better than the normal and expected welcome dinner. You know me, I just can’t help myself sometimes! 🙂
I must say, our guests seemed pretty happy about the dinner detour lol.
And besides, you cannot go to the Amalfi Coast without sailing the Amalfi coastline and visiting Capri! It’s a famous Italian playground, dating back to the Emperors of Rome in Ancient times.
The experience was quite amazing! Originally we were supposed to have one large yacht for everyone. Well, the rough seas did not cooperate with us so we had to delay our trip one day. That next day our big boat was already rented out by another party but lucky for us, my fabulous wedding coordinator Mirna worked out a sweet deal! We got two beautiful boats for the price of one. It was perfect. We split up into two groups and followed eachother along our route to Capri.
We enjoyed mid 70’s weather and lots of sun. Of course I had to play my favorite bossanova station as we jetted up the Amalfi coastline! Stopping at the blue, green and white grottos, some of us were even brave enough to take a quick swim. Well, by some of us I mean my cousin and Uncle, Anton, and a few of the guys. My cousin tricked my sister into “helping” him up onto her boat but of course he faked his move and pulled her in with him LOL. (They’ve had that relationship since they were young so it was uber cute to see some things never change.)
And of course I’m way too competitive not to jump in. OMG was that a shock. Oh yeah and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t do it for selfish reasons: some exercise and “cryotherapy.” Yes, cryotherapy LOL. I mean seriously, the water was soooo cold it totally helped bring any puffiness from the Italian wine we had been drinking, down!
The water clearly doesn’t warm up until JULY. I immediately thought I was too frozen to move my limbs and jumped back into the boat. It was the fastest swim of my life hahaha. A few stops later my Uncle convinced me to swim with him to their boat and as I made my way I thought my muscles were going to freeze and I was going under.
Dramatic much!
Well as you can see I survived 🙂 and not only made it to the other boat less puffy (I am totally convinced lol), but back to our boat after a quick hello. The temperature definitely improves the longer you stay in the water… you just start going numb HAH!
All of the grottos are beautiful and I cannot say I have a preference. But the water was still a little rough so the grottos were not as clear as they normally appear. I guess we have a reason to go back… ???
My Dad (he’s the best by the way!!) welcomed everyone with a beautiful lunch at a restaurant in the harbor of Capri. We toasted all of our guests and gave them a HUGE THANK YOU for making the trip!
There are several restaurants to choose from btw… and they all looked amazing! How could they not be with that view and location especially during the Rolex Sailing Cup?
After lunch we headed up to the top of Capri and the actual “downtown.” We separated into smaller groups because well, it’s just way easier than trying to get 20 plus people into a taxi! Anton and I and a few friends chose to ride the tram up. It literally took five minutes, cost 1.5 euro (taxis cost 35 euro in comparison) and WHAT A VIEW!!!
The town is adorable in a very “Beverly Hills” sort of way. The streets are so clean and colorful. The flower markets are to die for! And I seriously believe that every designer in the world of “anyone who’s anyone” has a store there. The city layout is flawless and every shop is very well maintained. I still prefer Positano for its less “showy” vibes, but Capri is a gorgeous destination totally worth seeing, at least for the afternoon.
Now let’s talk fashion! I wore a white lace romper (no pictures here I’m afraid we didn’t take any good ones I could approve to post LOL) and underneath I had this fabulous double sided bikini. I chose the side that had cute little pictures of Capri and St. Tropez but of course! The other side has white and blue stripes btw and is super cute too. Check out Diane’s Beachwear for more like this.
I wore my new Positano white loafers but changed into my white flip flops when we needed to walk back down to the harbor (I didn’t want to ruin my new shoes!). It’s always a good idea to bring flip flops ladies and gentlemen, seriously sometimes we need some backup! The tram line was soooo long we decided to take the 1023487 flights of stairs back down to our boat. Working up a sweat wasn’t such a bad idea either after that glass of local white wine at lunch.
The way back to Positano on our boat was beautiful but of course we all snoozed… wine, lunch and a day in the sun, what can I say?!
Capri we will definitely be back and hopefully for a few nights next time!
Well guys, any thoughts? Who has a favorite hotel here? What else is there to do on land? The sailing is incredible but I know we missed out on some fun land activities requiring additional time.
Okay, I’m off to watch the last few minutes of hockey with Anton. The first round of the Stanley Cup and he’s obsessed LOL. The dogs and I just sorta go with the flow, surf instagram and cuddle :).
